One of our young Sheikhs died in a helicopter crash. Three days of morning
which means only elevator music on the radio.

I went to the mall and there was a spooky silence there.

Last night I went to Madinat Jumeirah for Kung Pao Chicken. All cars were
re-routed to park in the Convention Center instead of the regular parking.
When I came back to the parking garage I was the only person there. There
was a dead-silence since the A/C wasn't on (yes, we A/C our garages). I felt
like Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky.

Between Ramadan and mourning, this city can be pretty spooky. You can feel
the undercurrents, but you don't know what they mean or why they're there.

CRAPPY BUILDINGS

The floorplates in my guestroom are coming out. They have already been fixed
twice in the living room. This makes me wonder how much the structure of
this building is moving…

All my colleagues are down on their knees from exhaustion. It's not because
of work, though, but life. Everyone says I look very tired. A client told me
that I didn't sound fabulous on the phone, but my tiredness is very apparent
in my voice.

GIRLS' DINNER

7 girls in Dubai. Some women here are amazing! It's shocking considering how
many lowlifes there are here. The dinner left me feeling happier and more
empowered than I have in a long time. I've been in a rut for a while.

Fabulous news! My neighbor told that the building is fine, but the
floorplates don't have any adhesive underneath them, hence they're coming

up. Oh goodie, because I thought it was something bad!

a little speech and give a toast. I don't think they realize how dangerous this could be :-)
Have you heard from Joe? Last I knew he was out of the country. I see his acupuncturist
(which is now becoming "my" acupuncturist thanks to Joe) tomorrow. Watched a PBS special
on Philip Glass last week and Sat Hon (Joe's friend and quigong Master) was in it. Kind of
exciting. Hnumn...let the cat out of the bag there didn't I sharing the extent of my exciting
life!

have been thinking about founding or investing in a technology startup, there is no better time to jump in and
take advantage of a recently enacted federal income tax benefit.
President Obama recently signed into law changes to tax law that may, under certain circumstances, exempt
profits from investments in startup companies from ALL federal income tax, including alternative minimum
tax. Yes, that's right, if you start a new company now and sell it more than five years from now and make a $10
million profit on the sale, you may owe NO federal income taxes on your profit.
This special tax benefit will apply only to stock issued to founders or investors between September 28 and
December 31, 2010, so time is of the essence.
The founder or investor would have to buy and hold shares of a "qualified small business" for five or more
years. A "qualified small business" is a C corporation engaged in an active trade or business with less than $50
million in aggregate gross assets.
If you satisfy the above requirements and certain other conditions, you may not have to pay federal income
taxes on your first $10 million of gain. If there is a liquidity event within five years of your purchase of
qualified small business stock, you may still be eligible to "roll over" any gains from sale of the shares tax-free
within 60 days into another qualified small business.
